The best places to buy Barbados property
The island is 21 miles long and up to 14 miles wide. Many people assume it’s in the Caribbean, although it’s actually in the North Atlantic Ocean. A brief summary of the regions:
East Coast
Rugged, facing the Atlantic Ocean so the sea can be very rough. It offers stunning rock pools warmed by the sun at low tide and some of the best surf spots in the world. Top surfers like Kelly Slater visit these shores on an annual basis to get some action in.
South Coast
Most commercialised, close to capital City, Bridgetown, some great spots for boogie boarding, kite surfing, paddle boarding and first time surfers.
For partying, St Lawrence Gap is the place to go!
West Coast
Facing the Caribbean, calm warm seas, most upmarket area (Sandy Lane etc). Known as the Platinum Coast (Gold coast isn’t good enough!). Reputed to have more millionaires per square mile than anywhere else in the world. Some world class restaurants – with prices to match! Beachfront property is the type where if you need to ask the price, you can’t afford it. However there are lots of properties near the beach at prices that don’t make you wince.
North Coast
Similar to the East coast. Large cliffs face off against the Atlantic ocean and rugged beauty abounds.
Central area
Rural with small towns and villages, and the roads can be challenging.
Most people buy property on the West coast (known as the Platinum coast). Hotels and property here range from affordable to eye-watering. The South Coast is also very popular and has a lower price point.
The key to choosing the right property in the right area is to use a good Estate Agent. They charge the seller so it won’t cost you and the best ones will focus on matching the right property to the right person knowing that their reputation for honesty builds their reputation and long term business.
